Lots of Changes in the World of TSS and SiriusXM

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013
Share Button

When it rains it pours. And now is one of those times, and it’s all positive.

In the past month we launched our new revamped website here at TSS-Radio. It was a tremendous amount of work and we are pleased with the overall result. We feel the website is easier to navigate and have heard that from customers as well. We’ve also added some new features such as now offering Paypal as a payment option and less expensive shipping options to Canada. One of the bigger advantages to our new website is that we have streamlined our offerings. In the past we carried every single accessory or part for Satellite Radio, which at the time was great, but we’ve changed our outlook and here’s why. We used to offer 4 different kits to Integrate Sirius into a Toyota and some of the kits worked better than others and had varying amounts of technical support from the manufacturers and us. It was redundant and overly complicated to find something simple. Our new approach is focused on the best of those products and helping you find them easier. And the important thing to remember is if you ever have trouble finding something we can always be reached by phone, 312-846-6606 or email sales@tss-radio.com

There also has been a lot going on at SiriusXM. Liberty Media has officially taken over majority control of SiriusXM. We feel that long run this will be a good thing. They will take the good things that Management has done and keep those and make changes to things that they feel will improve the company. For great info about all Liberty Media and the financial happenings of SiriusXM I always refer people to SiriusBuzz where they are experts as the subject and are more versed in it than myself.

One of the big changes at SiriusXM is that they have finally Merged the Billing. In the past if you had an XM Radio in your Car and bought a Sirius Radio for your home you would have to have two separate accounts that you paid full price for both. You couldn’t simply add the Sirius radio to your XM account. Now you can. And it’s explained more in depth within this thread on DRC.

The second big change is something I’m extremely excited about as well as many others. If you weren’t impressed enough with the fact that SiriusXM have an On Demand listening feature in which you can listen to shows on your time schedule and without commercials, than perhaps this new service will impress you. It’s called MyControl and it allows you to fine tune many of the stations you’ve loved listening to on the Satellite Radio spectrum. MyControl is SiriusXM’s take on Personalized Radio. And what’s so great about it is that the interface is simple and the service is tweaked the moment you take control. You don’t have to wait many songs deep before the service caters to your needs. If you enjoyed the 80s on 8 channel but didn’t like the Hits so much as the deeper tracks from the 80s, now you can tune out the hits and focus on the niche songs. DRC has a thread on MyControl for SiriusXM here. And SiriusBuzz did a story about it here.

Hopefully all the positive changes keep on this path!

SiriusXM coming to Google TV

The news was just released that Sirius XM content will soon be available on Google TV. Here is a link to the Reuters Press Release. Sirius XM will have a Google TV app that users can login and listen to their favorite shows, music, news or sports right on their Google TV. So it’s convenient for those that have a SiriusXM Internet Login and Google TV. We suspect there may be more of these types of deals in the future.

Here is a helpful video about Google TV

Hardwiring a Plug and Play Radio

Thursday, June 7th, 2012
Share Button

A lot of people want to hardwire their Plug and Play Radio. When they tell us that we need to clarify whether they want to hardwire the power (so that there is no need for a cigarette lighter plug) or if they simply want a direct audio connection providing crystal clear sound. We have options for both. But if you have the right vehicle we can provide an all in one solution that is perfect.

We are closing out what we call the “XM5” Aux Input Adapters from PIE. PIE made these years ago to initially support the newer 5 Volt Based XM Plug and Play Radios which is why they are called “XM5 Interfaces.” The XM5 Interfaces connect behind your factory car radio and provide a direct audio and power connection for 5 Volt Sirius and XM Radios. If your Sirius Xm Radio is a Power Connect Radio you will also need this additional plug.

Installation of the XM5 Interface is easy. The hardest part is simply getting behind the radio. If you are comfortable doing that it’s something you can install yourself. Otherwise look for a local car stereo shop. We suggest using Yelp reviews for that.

Here is the best thing about the XM5 Interfaces…they are on closeout for only $29.99. That’s less than half of their original retail price. So they are priced to move. You just have to check to see if your vehicle is compatible. Just look below for your vehicle and be sure to read the product description and compatibility notes.

If your vehicle isn’t compatible or the XM5 Interface is out of stock the next best option would be to hardwire the power with our Power Hardwire Kit and provide an audio connection with the FM Direct Adapter (just make sure your Plug and Play Car Cradle has an FM Output)

Sirius XM Satellite Radio Repairs from TSS-Radio

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012
Share Button

One of the unique things we are able to do at TSS Radio is repair some common problems with your Sirius XM Satellite Radio. It’s a service we began offering about 3 years ago and we have had a great success record.

Droo not only helps our TSS-Radio customers through email, but he also does the vast majority of our repair work from his workshop in Maine. Pretty far from our warehouse in Chicago!

So if you have a Sirius or XM Radio that needs a repair, you can contact Droo via email at sales@tss-radio.com. Let him know what model of radio you have and what issues you are experiencing. Droo will get back with you and let you know if he is able to fix your radio. He’ll give you a quote and an address where you can send the radio. The repair itself may take a few days or a week to fix and he will then promptly send the radio back to you via US Priority Mail.

After it’s fixed, the issue is guaranteed for 6 months. Twice as long as the factory warranty on new radios!

Common repairs Droo performs are listed below:

  • Repairing dock connectors on the Universal Sirius Radios, such as the

-Screen replacement for the Sirius XM Mirge, the XM Xpress RC and the XM Xpress RCi. If the backlight of your radio screen went dull this is what you will need.

-Replacing the Dials on XM XMP3s and XMP3is.

-Repairing the Stiletto 2 Internal Antenna. Sometimes people will drop their Stiletto 2 too many times and the internal antenna within it will no longer work. This will fix it so you are once again able to get reception in the portable mode.

-Repairing the Power and Antenna Connections on Starmate Replays (Model ST2).

Unfortunately we no longer have parts or tuners to repair older Sirius Sportsters and Sportster Replay Radios. Since these radios were discontinued more than 6 years ago we don’t have access to the parts. We would highly suggest upgrading to a newer model radio like the Sirius Starmate 8 or a SiriusXM Edge and starting over with new Home Kits or Boomboxes or Car Kits if you need them. If you end up moving to the SiriusXM Edge then you will be able to access the 20+ Xtra Channels that are now available on that receiver.

So if you need a repair on your Satellite Radio please reach out to us via email so we can help you get back to listening to SiriusXM.

New SXV200V1 SiriusXM Tuner Packs Lots of Channels

Monday, May 21st, 2012
Share Button

There have been many types of Aftermarket Sirius and XM Car Tuners since there inception and the new SXV200V1 is the latest and greatest. If offers more features, simplicity, and channels than ever offered before.

The SXV200V1 and Antenna

The question is what scenarios do you need an Aftermarket SiriusXM Tuner? In other words is your Car Compatible with the SXV200V1? It’s an Aftermarket Tuner so if your Car Stereo is SiriusXM Ready from the Factory you will need a Factory Tuner and NOT an Aftermarket tuner. An Aftermarket Tuner is made to work with Aftermarket Stereos (those Stereos that didn’t come from the factory when the car was made). A lot of people prefer the features and look of an Aftermarket Stereo as they often have the most up to date technology. Popular Aftermarket Radio Brands are Alpine, Eclipse, Pioneer, JVC, Sony, Kenwood, Clarion, Dual, and Panasonic.

Packaging for the SXV200V1

The SXV200V1 is compatible with those Aftermarket Stereos that show the “SiriusXM Ready” Logo. Radios with the “Sat Ready” “Sirius Ready” or “XM Ready” logos will require a different Aftermarket Tuner. The Sirius ones can be found here and the XM ones will be found here. Or if you still have trouble just reach out to us. 312-846-6606 or sales@tss-radio.com

Make sure your radio displays the SiriusXM Ready Logo

Unlike some previous tuners requiring multiple parts, the SXV200V1 is simple and connects to the back of the Aftermarket Stereo in the back with it’s proprietary 10 pin plug. It includes a magnetic mount SiriusXM antenna which can be mounted on the roof or trunk of your vehicle or if you are really picky inside the windshield by the dash (just make sure it get’s good enough reception there). It’s really that simple. The toughest part will be accessing the space behind the Aftermarket Radio. And if this isn’t something you are comfortable with find a local car stereo installer. Yelp is a great resource to find a good one. Just look for one with good reviews.

Now onto the fun part, the features. Every SXV200 will have the ability to receive the most channels available via the Satellites. It will allow you to access all of these channels which includes the 20+ Xtra Channels that many other Satellite Radios are not capable of doing. Receiving all of the channels will be based upon the subscription package you choose. In addition depending on the Aftermarket Stereo you have you may also have the capability to.

-Pause, Rewind and Replay up to 60 minutes of live Satellite Radio

-Get alerts when your favorite song, artist or team is playing

-Discover new music and tag for purchase with iTunes® radio tagging

So if you have a “SiriusXM Ready” Aftermarket Stereo/Radio this should be a no brainer. And frankly, I’m jealous. Especially because I would love to listen to Tiesto’s Club Life Radio, or RockBar, or Carlin’s Corner in my car. I just don’t have a radio capable of that.

If you need more help as always email us sales@tss-radio.com or call us during our working hours at 312-846-6606. MSRP is $79.99, but of course since we are TSS-Radio we have it for a much better price than that.

The TSS-Radio Logo Painted Atop our Roof

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Share Button

Here at TSS-Radio. We wanted to paint our 6000 square foot roof with our logo. That way the next time Google Maps did a satellite shot our logo would appear.

It was easier said than done. Harper spearheaded the measurements and the direction of the project, and with Tish, Josh and Jimmy’s help formed the outline of our logo using masking tape on the roof. Matt, Taylor, Jimmy, and Josh all spent time priming and painting the logo. It took about 3 coats of paint and we are all proud of the accomplishment and the final product. So if you ever happen to fly above us on a commercial plane just keep an eye out for the giant TSS-Radio logo.

TSS-Radio is located in a fascinating area of Chicago and we wanted to give you an idea of the contrasting areas that surround us.

In honor of our friends who started www.radius6.tv, a TV Show geared towards travel destinations within 6 hours drive of Chicago we wanted to do the same thing in a roughly 6 Block Radius of TSS-Radio. We are on the border of Wicker Park/Bucktown as well as Lincoln Park in Chicago. So here is our neighborhood from Industrial to Retail to a variety of Homes.

TSS-Radio is advertising this week in Streetwise Magazine. It’s a local magazine that supports Homeless people who instead of simply asking for money have a product to sell on the streets. The Streetwise Vendors buy the issues and then sell them back for a profit to the public. Some have really been able to change their lives with this program as seen on “Streetwise The Movie” .

This week TSS has advertised under the Miri Ben-Ari article. Miri is known as the Hip-hop Violinist. If you can find a copy in Chicago from a vendor than checkout our ad on page 12. Here are some pictures of the article.

Streetwise online can be found at StreetWise.org.

More Demand for SIRIUS outside US and Canada

Sunday, August 27th, 2006
Share Button

It seems we are getting more hits and more demands on our website for people who would like SIRIUS. Even though the main focus of the Satellites Orbits focuses on the Gulf to Mid-Canada, many people south of the States enjoy SIRIUS. In the Dominican Republic there is a SIRIUS Call Center where many customer service reps work. A number of people in Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, Dominican Republic, and Mexico all are enjoying SIRIUS and spreading the word.

It seems like things will move more and more towards a way where people all over the world will be able to enjoy SIRIUS. Just months ago, Howard Stern fans did not have the opportunity to listen online, now they do. There are some people who are able to listen outside North America, if they can find a way, and there is a way…

With the introduction of the new SIRIUS Stiletto SL100 people all around the World will have the opportunity to listen to the 67 online streaming channels SIRIUS has to offer. Europe and many parts of Asia are covered much more so with Wireless Internet Connections than most of the US. As long as you have the SIRIUS Stiletto, hooked up to an American address (here is where friends and family helps) you will have the opportunity to spread SIRIUS across the globe. For servicemen in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa, listening and taking part in American Content is key to relaxing. The SIRIUS SL100 will give them that content. It will be fascinating to see in the months ahead how SIRIUS Satellite Radio over WiFi will be adopted.
