F.A.Q.

GENERAL
Q. What is SIRIUS Traffic?
A. SIRIUS Traffic provides traffic data to vehicles over its nationwide satellite radio network. Two types of traffic information are included:

Real-time traffic flow — Real-time traffic speed on each road segment is averaged over a five minute period and is shown on the navigation map, usually as color-coded roadways. For example, a green colored roadway may represent free-flow speed; a yellow colored roadway may mean moderate congestion; a red colored roadway may represent heavy congestion. Today, the real-time flow information is available for 78 markets across the U.S. and Canada covering more than 55,000 miles of roadways.

Real-time traffic incidents — This includes updated traffic information on accidents, road construction, road closings and other traffic-related incidents. This information is usually displayed on the navigation map with an icon at the location of the incident. In most cases, detailed information about the traffic incident is also available. Today, the incident information is available for 80 markets across the U.S and Canada covering hundreds of thousands of miles of roadways.

Since the Sirius Traffic service is integrated with a vehicle's navigation systems, SIRIUS Traffic can help drivers pick the fastest route. Navigation systems can also reroute based on the updated real-time traffic.

COVERAGE

Q. Where is the SIRIUS Traffic Service available?
A. Currently SIRIUS Traffic serves 80 DMA (Designated Market Areas) markets or 111 CBSA (Core Based Statistical Areas) markets across the country. Please check the SIRIUS website for details.

Q. What coverage is available in these markets?
A. SIRIUS Traffic service primarily covers the freeways and interstates in the most populated metropolitan areas in the continental United States. In select markets, more local information is also available.

Q. Why is traffic flow information available only on some roads?
A. Traffic flow information is fed to SIRIUS Traffic by roadway sensors or GPS equipped trucks. The availability of these feeds varies city by city and is limited by road infrastructure and maintenance or the availability of sufficient GPS equipped trucks.

SIRIUS is continuing to incorporate alternative traffic monitoring technologies that will increase availability, speed and flow of roadway data.

Please note, if your onboard map database is outdated, the navigation system may have trouble utilizing all data made available by SIRIUS Traffic broadcasts.

Q. Will more cities be added to SIRIUS Traffic service?
A. Yes. SIRIUS will continue to increase the number of metropolitan areas it covers.

Q. Will SIRIUS Traffic expand into Canada?
A. Yes. Today, Sirius offers traffic incident information for three Canadian markets and flow information for one Canadian market. Sirius will continue to expand the Canadian coverage in the future.

Q. How accurate is SIRIUS Traffic data?
A. SIRIUS Traffic delivers the best information available from departments of transportation, police and emergency services, traffic sensors and cameras, airborne reports and other sources to your navigation system.

Accurate incident information is dependent on locating, verifying and reporting the incident as soon as the incident occurs. Incident information is especially dependent on various departments of transportation reporting accurate and timely data.

Proper maintenance of traffic sensors and a large number of GPS equipped trucks or probe data points are essential in creating accurate flow information. Many of the traffic sensors and probes have inherent reporting delays up to 20 minutes. Sirius is committed to improving the accuracy of flow data.

Q. How often is the SIRIUS Traffic data updated?
A. SIRIUS Traffic transmits updated incident and traffic flow information immediately upon receipt. It typically takes less than two minutes for traffic data to appear on the navigation system screen.

Q. How does SIRIUS Traffic report traffic speed for roads with multiple lanes?
A. SIRIUS Traffic reports the average speeds being traveled across all lanes in the same direction.

Q. Will SIRIUS data services include types of data other than SIRIUS Traffic?
A. Yes. SIRIUS already offers detailed marine weather services to vessels in waters off the U.S. coast. Sirius also offers weather, fuel prices, sports scores and movie times as part of Sirius Travel Link service for vehicle navigation systems. Visit www.sirius.com/TravelLink for more information.

Q. Which navigation systems are capable of using SIRIUS Traffic data? And where can I get them?
A. Aftermarket SIRIUS SIR-ALP10T unit — Compatible with Alpine SAT-READY headunits and the Alpine NVE-N872A Traffic Ready Navigation system, the SIR-ALP10T is distributed through Directed Electronics. The SIRIUS SIR-ALP10T currently only works with Alpine headunits.

Aftermarket Panasonic SIRSC10T unit—Compatible with the Panasonic CN-NVD905U headunit.

Aftermarket Eclipse SIR-ECL2NT unit—Compatible with the Eclipse AVN6110 and AVN6120 headunits.

Sirius Traffic equipment and service is integrated into several new models of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Visit www.sirius.com/traffic for more information on specific models.

Q. How do I activate my SIRIUS Traffic service?
A. Call 1-800-869-5364 for quick and easy activation of both the SIRIUS Satellite Radio and SIRIUS Traffic services.

Q. Are all Navigation systems capable of utilizing SIRIUS Traffic data?
A. No. Only those navigation systems specifically designed to accept traffic data from a subscribed SIRIUS Traffic enabled receiver.

While SIRIUS Traffic has been designed as an industry standard solution for multiple navigation systems, SIRIUS continues to work with developers of OEM and aftermarket navigation systems to incorporate real-time traffic abilities in future navigation products.

Q. Will my navigation system be able to access all traffic information as SIRIUS Traffic grows?
A. That may depend upon your navigation system. Displaying SIRIUS Traffic data requires a map database from NavTeq or TeleAtlas. Specific coding relating to location and traffic event will be contained in the map database. If your map database is outdated, you may not be able to see all of the available SIRIUS Traffic data. Please refer to the coverage maps provided with your specific navigation system and/or contact your dealer or aftermarket provider for more information.

Q. What if I have questions about the SIRIUS Traffic service?
A. Call 1-800-869-5364 for any questions about the SIRIUS Traffic services.
