Another thing to keep in mind is that Priority Mail could take longer than two days. Although our website states that Priority Mail is two-day, that number is an estimate and may take a day or two longer to arrive. If you need the order to arrive in two days or less, we suggest Priority Mail Express, or the Fedex overnight services both which guarantee delivery.

Discontinued SiriusXM Radios

This post was written by: Taylor

This isn’t the first or last time that some Satellite Radio products have being discontinued. It’s happened before and it’s just part of the Electronics business. But this is a particularly dramatic change and I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the product line changes. Many times products are discontinued and replaced with an improved product with more features. This time many features and types of radios are going away with no equivalent radio to replace them.

In this post I want to highlight what Radios are going away and what that means for you.

Discontinued Radios

-Sirius SCC1 Vehicle Tuner

-SiriusXM Lynx Portable Internet Radio

-XM XMP3i Portable Satellite Radio

-Sirius Starmate 8 Plug and Play Radio

-Sirius SR-H2000 Home Tuner

The Sirius SCC1 Vehicle Tuner has been around for some time now. It came out around 2008 and allowed people with “Sirius Ready” Aftermarket car stereos to get the Sirius service directly through their Headunit (ie Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, etc) given that they also had to purchase an Aftermarket Translator (an additional part that made the SCC1 work). Once installed the SCC1 and Translator hid behind the radio and people were able to control Sirius through their Aftermarket Headunit with excellent sound. Newer Aftermarket Headunits now come “SiriusXM Ready” and use the SiriusXM SXV200 Tuner which plugs directly into the Headunit. There are many advantages to the SXV200 vs the SCC1 such as it’s capable of receiving the “Xtra Channels” and you don’t need an Aftermarket Translator to make it work. So it’s less expensive than the SCC1 option. The disadvantage for some is that the SXV200 is Based on the XM network of Satellites and if you are in an area where the Sirius signal is better or most of your accounts are on the Sirius side it may be better to stay on the Sirius side of the service. Keep in mind the SiriusXM billing is now merged but depending on your programming package there are pros and cons to being on one side or another.

Once gone the SCC1s will be extremely hard to find and if your Aftermarket Headunit is “Sirius Ready” you will have a difficult time finding them so it’s best to purchase one now as well as the Translator you may need. Feel free to call us for help with this. 312-846-6606

SCC1

The SiriusXM Lynx Portable Radio is in a World of it’s own. There are so many unique features about the Lynx. It is very versatile and can be used in many different ways. You can activate it simply as a SiriusXM Internet Radio, you can use it as a Satellite Radio Plug and Play or you can use it as both. Some folks really have gotten a lot of use out of it. And for less than $200 you can get the Lynx along with a Lynx Home Kit and a Lynx Car Kit. You can record programs, use it as an MP3 Player, and more. It’s also the only SiriusXM Portable option out there. While it’s not capable of getting live Satellite Radio while in the Portable mode it is capable of getting SiriusXM Internet Radio while portable (so long as you have a Wifi signal nearby). This is one of the best products SiriusXM ever released and it never was on the radar for most. The users who have it seem to be very pleased with the overall package, especially being it’s the first SiriusXM Radio with a touch screen. One thing I know for sure is that months after these are gone you will find them on Ebay and Amazon with asking prices nearly double what they are now. The price of the radio and the kits right now are a bargain and just like other discontinued portable radios like the Stiletto’s or XM Inno’s you will see the price skyrocket in the months or year after they have been phased out. There is a very slim chance there will be an Aftermarket SiriusXM Portable Radio in the future from what we know.

sxmlynx

The other Portable that sadly has gone away is the XMP3i Portable XM Radio. It has a built in Satellite Radio Antenna within and has many features such as the ability to record 5 channels simultaneously. The XMP3 has been around since 2008, which is a very long lifespan of a Satellite Radio. The new versions have been discontinued officially and they will become sparse in the marketplace. We do have a Refurbished Version of them still around for a short while, but keep in mind while they do come with a home kit, the XMP3i Vehicle kits are extremely difficult to find. Refurbished XMP3i with Home Kit.

xmp3i Ever since 2005 there has been a Sirius Plug and Play Radio with the Replay Feature. That is the ability to pause and rewind radio (up to 30-50 mins depending on the radio and channel). It’s probably one of the most popular Satellite Radio features ever. The Starmate 8 may be the last Sirius radio with this feature. The Starmate 8 is going away and the only Plug and Play Sirius Radio option will be the Sirius Stratus 7, a radio that won’t have the Replay feature. So if you are looking for a new Sirius Radio and enjoy the Replay Feature we highly recommend purchasing a Starmate 8 while they are available. We expect to have some for a couple more months but like the other discontinued products they will be harder to find and will go up in market value in a few months.

ST8v1

Lastly the SR-H2000 Home Tuner which is often gets integrated into High End systems. It has an Optical Out which provides the best sound quality from the Satellite Radio service. The SR-H2000s will be gone soon and some may need to use an SCH2P as an alternative.

Top 10 Things You Might Not Know SiriusXM Offers (and More!)

SiriusXM has undergone quite a few changes in years since the merger of Sirius and XM, and there are some really cool service features that you need to know about!

  1. Multiple types of subscriptions are now available, as explained in the SiriusXM Subscription Comparison Guide at TSS-Radio.com.
  2. The All Access plan boils down to about $2 extra per month than the standard subscription, but it includes internet access and the premier stations. That’s a lot of value for $2.
  3. Instead of calling and waiting on hold for a person, you can add services, change services and even make payment online.
  4. You can even combine Sirius and XM accounts now.
  5. With an internet subscription, you can listen back five hours on many channels.
  6. You can listen to many programs On Demand, such as Howard Stern, Opie & Anthony or even 90s on 9’s The Back in The Day Replay (top 30 countdown).
  7. Select programming can be downloaded to your device to listen offline, such as the aforementioned Stern and O&A shows. Take a week’s worth of your favorite programming hiking where there’s no 3G data signal!
  8. There’s still a SiriusXM internet-based portable unit that makes a great plug and play radio called the SiriusXM Lynx and it’s almost gone. You can get a special bundle of this model with both the home and car kits by clicking here.
  9. SiriusXM’s new MySXM feature allows you to customize many music stations online. For example, on SiriusXM Hits 1, you can choose between varying degrees of pop & rock vs pop & rhythm, new hits vs currently hot hits and less teen pop or more teen pop. It’s the ultimate in music customization!
  10. SiriusXM puts you in the driver’s seat for all of your news and entertainment choices, whether you are a political junkie, just want to catch up on international headlines, a Howard Stern fan or ready to jam to any of the most eclectic choices in music programming available anywhere on the web.

Finally, by customer demand, SiriusXM now has Sports Play by Play online. You can listen anywhere you have internet access and a compatible browser, smartphone or tablet.

We’ll have more blogs to come, especially since our world-famous summer Garage Sale event is near! If you aren’t on our mailing list, click this link and sign up now. Note: you only have to give your email address, but add your birthday and you’ll be eligible for special offers and prizes

PowerConnect Adapters and Docks

This post was written by: Taylor

February 26th, 2013

A couple years ago SiriusXM introduced a patented solution to improve the audio quality from the Wireless FM Transmitters that are built into all the Plug and Play Radios.

That solution was called PowerConnect. Instead of the Plug and Play Radio simply sending the audio over the air to your cars FM Dial it instead injects it via the SiriusXM PowerConnect Power Adapter to the metal of the socket and your car. While this method isn’t as ideal as using an Aux Cable or an FM Direct Adapter it’s a very easy way to connect and Play your Radio with ease. Especially in small radio markets outside big cities.

PowerConnect 5 Volt Car Power Adapter

PowerConnect has helped a lot of TSS-Radio customers simply because it’s easier to buy a radio and not have to take apart the dash just to install an FM Direct Adapter. However it’s important to know one thing about PowerConnect when looking for replacement parts.

PowerConnect Power Adapters must always match up to PowerConnect Docks/Cradles. The PowerConnect radios and power adapters are 5 Volts and many customers confuse them with NON PowerConnect 5 Volt power adapters. We can’t highlight enough that you have to make sure you are purchasing the correct adapters or docks.

XM PowerConnect Car Cradle. Note the Color Coded Inputs.

The tip is that PowerConnect Docks/Cradles always have Color-Coded inputs. If your Vehicle Dock has color coded inputs it means that you need a PowerConnect 5 Volt Car Power Adapter. If your Vehicle Dock doesn’t have that then you need a different power adapter.

We currently have 2 versions of PowerConnect Car Adapters. One is the OEM version here. The other has a thicker cabled coiled cord that only provides the power and NOT the audio portion. This version is less expensive but it’s great if you have the audio covered with an Aux connection or FM Direct Adapter.

In addition some people like to use the Vehicle Docks in their home. If you have a PowerConnect Vehicle Dock but need a Home AC Adapter for it we do have a special PowerConnect AC Adapter just for you.

If you do need help with this our Parts finder is a big help or feel free to call us 10am-6pm Central time at 312-846-6606 or email us sales@tss-radio.com

Discontinued Products

We find a lot of customers get frustrated when things get discontinued or changed product wise. But it’s how things are and they will likely always be. Even if a car model or a phone is wildly popular and successful the manufacturer has to tweak it or replace it at some point.

Satellite Radios, parts and accessories are no different. And we have a couple products that are Discontinued, but for the time being we still have stock of as of publishing this post.

XMP3 Antenna Headphones

XMP3/XMP3i Antenna Headphones

If you have an XMP3 or XMP3i Portable XM Radio your radio has a built in Antenna, but some may need additional reception with the use of these Antenna Headphones. They are now discontinued and we have limited quantities.

XM Snap Radio

XM Snap

The XM Snap is an incredible simple and fun XM Radio. Installation is a Snap. All you do is put the PowerConnect stalk into the Cigarette Lighter, Mount the Antenna and either connect with an Aux Cable or use the PowerConnect to match up FM Frequencies and the install is done. The unit doesn’t have tons of features or presets but for a lot of people that’s the draw. Sadly the XM Snap is being discontinued and hopefully something fun and simple will come out in the future. In the meantime if you love the concept of the Snap, make sure you snap it up fast before they are gone!
